Sex, Lies, and Handwriting

Unfaithful

Dear Michelle,

I’ve just re-read your book, “Sex, Lies and Handwriting” for the third time. I loved it! I have a question for you. I was married to a man whom I loved (and I believe he loved me). He was wonderful in most respects except for one----he just couldn’t stop seeing other women. He would try to be faithful (at least that’s what he would tell me) but, sooner or later, he’d be sneaking around on me. Eventually, I had no choice but to leave him.

I thought I had put the whole thing behind me (we divorced over 20 years ago), but with all this press about Eliot Spitzer’s infidelities, the whole thing has resurfaced in my mind. I’ve thrown out any handwriting that belonged to my ex-husband but, I was wondering if you had a chance to see Eliot Spitzer’s handwriting. If so, what can you tell about him?

Thank you, Cecelia from Austin, Texas

Dear Cecelia,

Eliot Spitzer, the former Attorney General and Governor of New York, resigned after it was revealed that he had been transferring large sums of money to pay for prostitutes. Let’s take a peak into the handwriting of this moralizing former politician, the jut-jawed man “Kristen” knew as “Client Number 9.”

Look at the way Spitzer signed his name. Do you see that the “E” in Eliot could easily be a “C”? And that the name could be read as something like “Chris A” or “Chet S”? Spitzer’s ambiguous letter formations show that he tries to disguise the truth. He wants to leave the interpretation of events unclear so that he has an out when he needs it. Often people with ambiguous letters are sketchy and say one thing but do another.

When letters are narrow and squeezed at the top, like the “S” in Spitzer’s last name, it shows that the writer is driven and feels a great deal of tension.

Do you also see how Spitzer’s “S” resembles a star? You’ll often find that writers with superstar ambitious will subconsciously include a star in their signatures. Given his high moral standards and even higher political ambitions, perhaps it would have been smarter for Spitzer to relieve his tension with a long, cold shower ... rather than letting his political aspirations go down the drain at the Hotel Mayflower.
